Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) is enforced for all public, non-public elementary and secondary schools. In 1987, the EPA formed the AHERA guidelines as an enforceable set of practices for dealing with Asbestos in schools, the Local Education Agency (LEA) is responsible for upholding and enforcing all AHERA guidelines.
